Original electronic format vs. scanned image books?

Our books are printed from either Original Electronic Files or Scanned Images.

Original Electronic Files

Most of our printed books are prepared from the publisher's original computer files. This creates a very high quality book.

Scanned Image Files

Many older books in our catalog never existed as digital layout files or their files have been lost. High resolution scans are taken of an original hardcopy of the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy - the text is fine for reading, but often illustration work starts to run dark: pixelating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos.

On the Product Description page, we mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.  Just check the Product Information section in the right column of the product page:

If you received a printed book and are not happy with the quality, please let us know and we can investigate further.
